Manchester Blogmeet at Centro Tuesday

I've sorted things out for our blogmeet. Unfortunately Trof NQ couldn't give us a dedicated space that would be big enough, but Centro can give us their whole basement area. Centro is on Tib Street towards the northern end heading away from the city centre.

We'll be meeting there on Tuesday, March 10 from 7-9pm. Just come downstairs. They do very nice beers and drinks as well as coffees and non-alcoholic bevvies. They don't do food as far as I know, so maybe grab something nearby (Hunters BBQ?) beforehand if you're coming straight from work. I'll bring the nametags.

Centro say they have wireless there in case anyone wants to liveblog. However, anyone showing too much love to their laptop or mobile phone will be gently encouraged to extricate themselves from their devices and engage in real world interaction. That's what it's all about, folks. See Samantha Bee's behaviour in this Daily Show clip as an example of what NOT to do...

Please reply to this and say you're planning on coming so I have an idea of numbers. (Unless you already replied to the earlier post.) See you there!

Shall try to show my face at the start, but have to scarper by about half seven I fear. Sorry!

Hi Kate, I'd love to come but already booked up for that date, cannot change plans either. What a pain. Great idea and well done for doing the work. Please let me know next time & have a fab meet.

My new blog is only just halfway stuttering into life, but I hope to join you all, if that's OK.

Hey Kate, that was swell. I met some lovely people and ran into a few old faces too. Sorry I didn't get a chance to talk properly but maybe next time? Thanks for sorting it all.

An excellent evening -- thanks for organising it Kate; great to meet everyone...

Why does everything in Manchester have to be in a bar? It's like some illness.

The noise level is usually too high for a comfortable conversion and it causes problems for older people in particular.

Bars are expensive, which cuts out some from attending. For example those not working.

What about people who don't drink for whatever reason (Muslims?) or who just don't like bars?

What about a picnic in the park with everyone staying sober and actually able to chat and make sense instead of getting pissed?

Hey Anonymous, you make a really good point. I agree with some of what you're saying - that's why we made sure we had a dedicated rooom of our own in a bar we were pretty darn sure would be very quiet. As to cost, I think you can buy a non-alcoholic bevvy at centro for pocket change. It certainly wasn't a big booze-up, and as far as I could tell nobody was remotely pissed. Much chatting.

I agree it would be lovely to have a picnic and indeed we have tried to organise a bloggers' bbq in summers past but it kind of fell apart (a mix of people's plans on weekends and the fickleness of weather round here.)

Why don't you help organise the next blogmeet? Email me at themanchizzle at gmail dot com and we can talk about it. Would be great to meet up somewhere new.
